Villarreal have agreed a new contract with a key star behind closed doors, according to fresh reports.
The Yellow Submarine have a number of decisions to make over their more senior players, and it seems one has already been made. According to various local sources, including Radio Castellon and Relevo, Dani Parejo has already signed a new two-year contract.
Parejo was due to see his contract expire in the coming summer, but the 34-year-old has now extended his stay by two years.
It’s claimed the deal was struck weeks ago, but Villarreal have decided to delay the announcement due to the sacking of Pacheta and the arrival of Marcelino. It’s claimed the club want to announce the deal under better circumstances.
Parejo has been a huge success overall at Estadio de la Ceramica, but he has lost support from some fans this season due to a perceived lack of effort defensively, leading to boos from some fans.
But he has picked up over recent weeks, and it’s hoped he will get a fresh lease of life under a manager he has worked with previously at Valencia in Marcelino.
A two-year contract does seem generous for a 34-year-old player, but the midfielder is a playmaker who doesn’t necessarily need to be all that mobile, and his technical ability is undeniable.
