Marcelino has been speaking after Villarreal’s home win over Osasuna on Sunday afternoon.
The returning Yellows boss won his first La Liga game back in charge thanks to a big second-half performance, with Filip Jorgensen keeping Villarreal in the game before Jose Luis Morales made it five goals in two goals with a hat-trick.
It was a big win for Villarreal, particularly in terms of confidence, given the struggles they have had so far this season, but the three points certainly didn’t come easy.
“In the first half we had a bad time, quite bad,” Marcelino admitted after the game. “We didn’t have a good feeling in any phase of the game and Jorgensen kept us in the game. After the break we did improve a lot. Above all, in activity. In the first half we were stiff and hesitant.”
Speaking about Morales’ heroics and his impact on the previously struggling forward, Marce added: “I simply conveyed confidence. But like everyone else. But the strikers who live on goals...and he had not scored for a long time and had not participated. He scored two the other day at Zamora and today he scored a very simple first goal, in which Gerard is very generous, but then he scored two great goals.
“Surely, if he didn’t score the two the other day and the first, then the 60-meter drive would have gone wrong or in the third he wouldn’t have had the confidence to do what he did. We are very happy and let’s hope he keeps scoring goals, as the team will always need it. We need to concede less and score more.”
