Villarreal have been dealt another possible injury blow in the form of centre-back Mateo Gabbia.
The Yellows were hit by a huge blow last week when star winger Yeremy Pino was ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury that will require surgery.
It was not the best news for Marcelino to receive during his first week back at the club, but the injury issues don’t end there.
Centre-back Gabbia - one of the few centre-backs with any sort of pace - has limped off during the training session that took place on Tuesday night - a match-prep session ahead of the Copa del Rey clash with Zamora on Wednesday night.
The news comes after Aissa Mandi suffered an ankle injury during the international break, further reducing the availability at centre-back.
The positive is that Juan Foyth has finally returned from injury, while Alfonso Pedraza is also back. Foyth may have to revert to his old position at centre-back given the lack of options Marcelino now has at centre-back.
Villarreal welcome Osasuna to Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday in La Liga after the Zamora clash, and they then face Panathinaikos at home in a key Europa League clash next Thursday.
