To the surprise of a few, Ontiveros will leave Villarreal again this season on loan. But to the surprise of a lot, it won’t be to sign with Málaga but with Osasuna. The story is being developed as we speak, but apparently all this happened.

Villarreal wanted a loan for Ontiveros, and that’s why he didn’t have a number. Elche asked for him as well as Girona, Eibar or some foreign teams. All of them were rejected, but there was apparently a closed deal with Málaga. He would be travelling there this Thursday and today he would be with the team already, with Málaga paying the 40% of his wages.

This changed at last minute, as Osasuna received the medical report from Kike Barja, where their winger will be a month out and decided to strengthen this position. They have agreed to pay the full wage, which amounts to one million euros, and will have him in loan without buy-out option. This deal was better-suited for Villarreal, as he would continue playing in Primera, with the whole wage being paid by the other club.

This will provide him with the chance of, finally, showcase all his potential and show that he can be a good player for a Villarreal that seems more interested on recovering the investment than anything.

With Osasuna, he will face the competition of the likes of Kike Barja, Rubén García, Rober Ibáñez, Javi Martínez or Roberto Torres, although the last two will be combining the first team with the second and playing in a more centered role, respectively. I imagine, if all are healthy, that he will share minutes with Barja on the left, as the others tend to be positioned more in the right. It’s possible he’s the second choice at the left behind Barja, but he has now a month to position himself as the owner of the position
