New signing Danjuma was on the bench today as Villarreal looked for the first win in La Liga. This clearly hurt Villarreal in the opening half as Emery went for the more physical Moi Gomez and Alberto Moreno on the wings.

30 minutes in Moi Gomez was through on goal against an on-rushing Diego Lopez. Moi went to his right and fell to the floor appealing for a spot-kick. The referee deemed it correctly that it was a dive and Gomez was awarded a yellow card.

Villarreal best chances came in the last few minutes of the half from the left-hand side. 42 mins Pedraza sent a low pass to Alberto Moreno. Moreno shot was saved by assured Diego Lopez. Minutes later Pedraza sent a powerful left-footed volley which went just wide of the post.

The second half hoped to be better with Villarreal having several attacking threats on the bench. Sadly this wasn’t to be as neither side really challenged the goal.

47 minutes in Raul de Tomas left footed shot from outside the box just drifts over the post with a beautiful assist from Oscar Gil.

62 minutes came Villarreal only real attempt on goal in the second half. Moi Gomez sent a beautiful cross that landed on the head of Capoue. The ball is saved by former yellow’s keeper Diego Lopez.

Europa League Penalty hero Rulli had a nightmare moment in the 80th minute. Clearly hadn’t been challenged enough. The Argentine played out a weak past from his box. This found Raul Tomas who latched on to the pass and sent the ball just wide of the goal.

Disaster for Espanyol as a last-minute goal was disallowed as Wu Lei handballed the ball into the back of the net giving Villarreal a lucky escape.

Danajuna made a brief appearance in the 85th Minute. Villarreal will be hoping the 20 million star will make a difference this season. Final score 0-0.
