Thomas McIlroy came to Vila-real back in the 2011-12 season, teaching English to local kids, including some of Villarreal’s cantera players. He returned to England and worked in various media there, and returned to Spain several years later, this time working for Villarreal’s media department.
Thomas now is Villarreal’s international content manager, and he was in the pressbox for the Europa League final. It was just as nerve-racking for him as for the rest of the Villarreal supporters, but he had a job to do as well. He sits down with Allen to discuss what it was like being there as Villarreal lifted the trophy.
As Thomas notes, Villarreal is interested in its international supporters, and I can vouch from firsthand experience that they go out of their way to make any of us welcome when we are able to make it to Spain for a Villarreal match.
