Super Sub Yeremi Pino saves the day after the victory looked in jeopardy against a physical Getafe. The 1-0 victory means the Yellow Submarine now raise to 6th in the table.
Getafe started the stronger side as Emery looked to Europe resting many of Villarreal’s 1st team players. Getafe’s best chance came in the 11th minute. Arambarri who scored a beautiful long-range shot in the previous match couldn’t do the same this time around
Frustratingly for the Yellow submarine, Villarreal first real chance on goal was in the 44th minute. Dani Raba who had a rough game unleashed a left-footed shot from the centre of the box which was saved. Samu Chukwueze had a goal early on in the match denied which was Villarreal’s only other threat on goal.
Villarreal’s winning streak against Getafe is impressive as they have not lost to Getafe in the last four matches. As the side went in at half time that record could be broken as Getafe recorded the more chances on goal.
At half time Emery resorted to drastic measures as he looked to win this crucial game. Alcacer, Raba and Parejo made way for Bacca, Gerard Moreno and Coquelin. It was super-sub Yeremi Pino who came on for Samu in the 70th minute that changed the game.
79 minutes Carlos Bacca sent a half volley to pass over to Pino on the right-hand side. The Spaniard still had a lot to do as he sprinted towards the goal. With a dribble and quick feint past Olivera he found himself through on goal. With the outside of the left foot, he curled the ball into the bottom corner making it 1-0.
Villarreal now sits in 6th position a point behind Real Sociedad and currently in a European spot. That being said the Europe match against Arsenal on Thursday will be at the front of every Villarreal fan’s mind.
