Gerard Moreno becomes Villarreal leading goal scorer after a victory against a resilient Valladolid

Gerrard Moreno saves the day again as Villarreal triumph over a relegation-threatened Valladolid 2-0

The first goal came in the 68th Minute. Pau Torres charged forward from the Villarreal half. With a beautiful overhead ball, he found a sprinting Moreno. The Catalan star held off the defender. He turned on to his left foot and sent a curling shot into the bottom corner 1-0

The second goal came in the 91st minutes when Capoue earned his first goal for Villarreal. When an overhead pass found a free sprinting Trigueros on his own in the Valladolid half. Trigueros played the ball across onto a sprinting Capoue who blasted the ball into the back of the net 2-0.

With that goal, Gerard Moreno becomes the leading goal scorer in Villarreal’s history. Fans will be expecting many more goals from their starman over the years.

Valladolid was desperate for the 3 points to jump out of the relegation zone. Their best chance came in the 10th minute. Roque Mesa skipped past Pena and sent a curling strike that drifted wide of the goal.

Controversy hit Villarreal again much to the dismay of the Villarreal fans. 30 minutes in EL Yamiq took down Gerard Moreno from behind with a vicious kick. Pleads for a red card were dismissed by both the Referee and VAR and only a Yellow was awarded.

Danger came for Villarreal in the final few minutes of the match. Trigueros gave away a silly free-kick on the edge of the box. Marcos de Sousa with a curling acrobatic attempt sent the ball over the goal.

Villarreal will have the Europa League final at forefront of their minds. Villarreal will need to step it up their game if they are to dominate Man United in the Europa League
