Following a victory in the Europa League against Red Bull Salzburg Villarreal were hoping to fight their way out a slump of draws. This wasn't to be as the Yellows suffer their 6th consecutive draw 1-1 of this season.

16 minutes Villarreal struck first as Pedraza proved why he was starting left back for Villarreal. With a tantalizing run he dribbled past 3 players to find himself on the outside the box. Athletic Club were far from down and out in the 44th minute. The Basque side were stronger team in the first half with the most attempts on goal. Following a counter attack. The ball was crossed in from the left hand side. The cross deflected of Williams and flipped over the head of Asenjo. Berenguer came running in from the back and bundled the ball across the line.

The second half became a defensive battle as neither side could really pernitrate the defencive walls. Bilbao clearly wanted the game more as they recorded 7 shots to Villarreal’s 1 shot on goal. 70 minutes in Munian managed to break free from the prison guard that was Juan Foyth. He send a right footed shot from a tight angle that was cleared by Capoue.

Asenjo proved his doubters wrong in the 73rd minute. The ball was curled into a free Williams. He sent a powerful header towards the goal. Asenjo pushed the ball wide in match saving save.

Final score 1-1 in what was game where neither side really took advantages of their chances. The pressure continues to grow on Emery as his side suffer yet another draw.
