With no recognised striker in the lineup, it was down to Yermi Pino to lead the lineup for the Yellow submarine. The young star showed the reason he was called up to the national squad with world-class performance.

Betis’ one and the only chance came in in the 9th Minute. Pau Torres flicked the ball over Fekir’s head. The Frenchmen with a quick turn of pace recovered the ball. Fekir found William Carvalho on the edge of the box. He launched a shot towards the bottom corner which was saved by Rulli.

Despite a lively first half Villarreal’s best chance came in the 27th minute. Coquelin with a beautiful flick over the defence found Danjuma. The Dutchman was through on goal and sent outside of the boot shot towards the goal. The ball was saved off the line by Edgar in world-class defensive clearance

Villareal’s leading goal scorer made up for this seconds later before the halftime whistle. After a poor touch by Bellerin, the ball found its way to Danjuma on the left. He sprinted in to box. Despite being on his weaker foot put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 at halftime.

It appears 25 million euros is proving a bargain for the Villarreal signing. 69 mins Pino flicked the ball onto Moi Gomez. Moi Gomez sent a beautiful ball through to Danjuma. The Dutchman sent the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

With a performance like that Villarreal will not be worried about the lack of strike force. The Manchester United Champions league defeat is long forgotten as they go into the break.
