Villarreal at Zamora CF: Copa Del Rey Gamethread

Unai Emery’s men seek to advance in the Copa

As I write this, two La Liga sides are losing to lower tier opposition in the Copa Del Rey (and Celta seems to have no way back) so let’s not take this one lightly at all. In this single elimination format, one bad day is all it takes to go home, as we learned in last year’s quarter finals.

Carlos Bacca returns from injury and Samu Chukwueze starts as well. New man Etienne Capoue will make his Villarreal debut. Overall, Emery but a lot more muscle into this lineup than I expected. I think we are going to see Jaume Costa at right back here? It’s possible that Foyth slides over there and Jaume plays in midfield but I think those are the options.

If we are aggressive and assertive we should be able to collect some early goals and get this thing put away.

For their part, Zamora put together a video with very dramatic music in the background to list their lineup, pulling out the stops for what is their biggest match of the year to date, at least in terms of competition being faced:

The graphic in that video shows the formation as something akin to a 4231, I’ll be interested to see how compact they are defensively and if those wide attackers/wingers tuck inside to try to give them an advantage in midfield.

I’m not entirely sure how much of the match I’ll see today, as it lands right in the middle of a work day here in the states, so give me your comments below and keep me posted. Endavant Villarreal!
