Villarreal defence was finally caught out as Real Sociedad last minute goal earned a well deserved 1-1 draw
Villarreal were the first to strike the back of the net and what a beautiful strike. 3 minutes in Pena sprinted down the right side and curled the ball into the box. After a shot from Alcacer the ball bounced of the defender. With a beautiful half volley Parejo sent a stunning shot into the top right hand corner.
Real Sociedad were clearly not shaken by the goal and they began to dominate the first half. 8 minutes in Isak from the left hand side blasted a shot which deflected of the goal. Asenjo would not have saved had it been on target.
Real Sociedad continued to dominate with 66% possession in the first half. 23 minutes Isak with a right footed shot which was saved low by Asenjo who was the reason it was still 1-0.
Villarreal’s next chance came in the 34 minute. Pedraza with a beautiful low cross, the ball was then flicked towards the goal by Alcacer only drift inches past the post.
As the the two sides came out for the second half it was Real Sociedad that was searching that special spark.
That spark came in the final minute of the game. Both Raul Albiol and Pau Torres failed to clear the ball from the box. As the ball drifted away from the goal Isak latched a right footed volley into the ground which rebounded past the flailing arms of Asenjo to make it 1-1.
It was fair to say that both teams could have won it with the chances they had. In the end a draw seems a fair result as both side failed to take those chances.
