On The Spot Report: Villarreal Leap Up The Table After 2-1 Victory Against Levante

Emery’s side are back as they grind out a 2-1 victory against Valencian rivals.

After Villarreal’s 2-0 defeat to Sevilla last year the Yellow Submarine was looking to rise up the table. The Yellows did exactly that taking a 2-1 victory against Levante

Levante started of the game the stronger side 3 minutes in Roger Martinez sent a beautiful long distance strike towards the goal only drift over the post.

Fer Nino who has started the last few games in Alcacer and Bacca’s absence was first on the scoresheet. Pedraza sent in a low cross from the left hand side, the Andalusian calmly slotted home. His second goal of the campaign in La Liga.

The sides were locked in a strong battle in midfield with both sides struggling to penetrate. Asenjo had a quiet game until the 47th minute. Pino sent in a striker’s tackle to give away a freekick on the edge of the penalty box. Coke sent a beautiful curling shot only for Asenjo to pull of a stunning save.

As the sides came out in the second half Villarreal looked to to continue where they left of to gain the 3 points.

Star man Gerrard stepped up yet again as he looked to continue his goal scoring streak. 54 minutes in Samu with a tantalizing run passed to Moreno on the left hand side. The Catalan calmly controlled the ball and slid the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Villarreal were clearly concerned by the attacking threat from Levante’s bench and opted to bring on 2 defencive minded players in Jaume Costa and Pedraza.

73 minutes in Radoja sent a beautiful curling cross from the right hand side. Juan Foyth was easily muscled of the ball. Sergio Leon headed the ball towards the goal to make it 2-1.

It was desperate final 10 minutes, Villarreal managed to see out the final few minutes of the game to earn a much needed victory. Villarreal return to the top half of the table for the mean time and they look for more victories in 2021.
