Villarreal have opted to strengthen at the back.... for the B team. They bring in 23 year old Maximiliano Villa on loan from Girona.
Not the Defender announcement everyone has been expecting but a defender all the same. The Uruguayan’s career seems to have halted over the last few years.
He signed a permanent contract with Girona in 2019 and was loaned to SD Ponferradina for a season long loan. He didn’t exactly set the valley a light making only 5 appearances before returning to Girona B Team. Maybe Villarreal can rekindle his spark as we have done for so many South American players.
This would not normally make Villarreal USA news. However, from this I deduce that Chakla won’t be returning to the B team and will be the Fourth CB choice for this season. There are still rumours flying around of Juan Foyth being linked with us. Considering the price they are asking I can’t see this happening.
The British clubs seem to have distanced themselves from him. There were rumours of him being included in a deal with Inter for Skriniar but who knows.
Considering we were scouting the Argentinean national before his time at Spurs. It seems likely our interest in genuine in the versatile CB. It is extremely worrying that we are relying on Albiol and injury prone Funes Mori. Normally I’m the overly positive one but seems like a recipe for disaster. Maybe Emery will have to adopt 3 at the back approach which he used quite a lot at Arsenal.
Welcome Maximiliano!
