Another season, another chance to chase promotion to the top flight for Villarreal Women. We open the season in the Segunda Division Pro South against Levante B. The season schedule begins on October 18th and runs through February 28th for a total of 18 matches.
Last year, in the one of a kind Coronavirus shortened season, the women finished 4th. Despite the loss of the incredibly talented Aixa Salvador, who has moved to Real Betis, promotion is still the goal as we seek to have both the men’s and women’s first teams in the flight together for the first time in club history.
The women’s team was founded in 2000. From 2005-20010 the competed in the regional division of women’s football in Spain, the rest of the time they have been in the second tier (which has been reorganized during that time.)
Returning to manage the team will be Sara Monforte, former Spanish international originally from Castellon.
Our group this season will contain the following teams:
CD Alba Fundacion Femenino
Alhama CF
CF Joventut Almassora
Levante UD B
Real Union de Tenerife
C.D. Femarguín SPAR Gran Canaria
UD Aldaia CF
Valencia Féminas CF “B”
In order to advance to the next round towards promotion, we will need to finish top four in our group. For those of us based outside of Spain, it is always difficult to follow the women’s team, but their matches are sometimes broadcasted on Youtube and we’ll try to get you those links as they are available as well as keep you apprised of their scores this season.
Endavant!
