After the shortest off season in memory, La Liga football is officially back! We open up against newly promoted Huesca, a team that loves to play courageous football. The match should be very entertaining and I can’t wait to see our new look Villarreal in action!

Lineups:

I think the only predictions for the starters I missed yesterday where Kubo and Iborra. Iborra not starting doesn’t really shock me, I just figured that with two similar quality players between him and Coquelin, Unai might go with the guy who had been with the club longer. That said, Coquelin and Parejo are much more familiar with one another as a partnership.

Chukwueze over Kubo surprised me a little bit, but at the end of the day I think they are probably similar quality players, and whoever starts you will likely see the other come on at the hour mark on a regular basis. It’s good to see Fer getting a spot in the 18 over Bacca, though I wonder if that has implications for the Colombian. Iborra, Trigueros, Costa, Gaspar, Ontiveros, and Kubo, are all bench options I trust.

Honestly, I don’t know enough about many of these players to comment too terribly much, but Okazaki caused a lot of buzz when they brought him in last season, though I don’t expect him to be but so dangerous. It’s good to see Andres getting the start in goal. I hope he keeps that job all year and gets plenty of minutes.

Thoughts?

Keep the comment section buzzing with your thoughts on how the match is going. Hopefully we have plenty of Villarreal goals to celebrate.
