Villarreal prepares the preseason

A look at what’s known

As per Superdeporte reports, Villarreal will return to training between August 10 and August 12, which after the medical tests, while mark the start of the new season with Unai Emery at the helm, flanked by Imanol Idiakez.

With the measures due to COVID-19 published, the preseason will be marked by a strict control of the team and the protocols, with the trainings being done in the Ciudad Deportiva Villarreal CF where there are enough commodities to satisfy the players whether it is the restaurant or the living rooms, and two good fields to work the first weeks.

Now, the planning for friendlies to be played, the idea would be either host them in the Ciudad Deportiva or go to near fields, with the rivals being teams from the Valencian Community or national teams. Of course, this can vary as the pandemic develops, as per tradition, Villarreal has spent the first weeks in the Ciudad Deportiva before travelling outside Spain for a week or ten days, which is an option not possible at the current state of affairs.

With Superdeporte not giving names about which teams could Villarreal face, the number of fields and teams here being high, the idea of Villarreal playing against a Valencian Community team would be summed up as four possible choices: Valencia and Levante from Primera, Elche from Segunda and the newly promoted Castellón, which returns to professional football after a decade of misfortune. That’s the only teams I see Villarreal playing from here, as the rest of teams playing at national level hailing for Valencian lands can go from semiprofessional sides to amateur ones, and that’s the kind of teams you would only play at the early state of the preseason. What’s your take on this preseason?
