Marca is reporting that we are linked with Brentford keeper David Raya. Frankly, I hate it for Brentford that they are stuck in the English Football League Championship. They are one of the most analytically based clubs in the world, and you all probably know by now how I geek out about that sort of thing. Numbers getting tossed around in the 8-10m range just aren’t going to happen. A backup keeper isn’t going to cost this club that much, especially when he’s already 24, so it’s not like he’s bursting with potential. We definitely need someone as Andres Fernandez is linked heavily with a move to Huesca, but I’m not convinced yet that the former UE Cornellà is going to be that guy.
In other Villarreal news Miguelon has transferred to Espanyol on loan with an option to buy. This is a good move for the player, I think. Also 24, Miguelon doesn’t really seem any closer to breaking through at a top flight level- though he did have a solid season with Huesca in 2019-2020. Espanyol is looking to bounce right back up to the top flight, and if Miguelon is influential in that, he should get a permanent move and a chance to take that next step in his career.

I’m curious to see what happens with Raba, Pedraza, and Franquesa. Bacca is probably on his way out, but with Callejon possibly joining will Fer still go on loan? There are a lot of moves left in this off season for Villarreal, and not a lot of time to get them done.
