As previously reported, yesterday Gianluca Di Marzio said that Callejón would be close to finalize his move to Villarreal. As he reports, the negotiations between the club and him would be going well. He’s currently earning 3.5 millions a season and would arrive for free, finalizing his contract this August after the prolongation done due to the COVID-19 stop to Serie A. Corriere dello Sport reported last December that part of the reason he didn’t renew was that the club wanted to freeze his pay while he was looking for a rise towards 4 millions a season.

What does this mean for Villarreal? When the news were first named, in late July, he was a need for Villarreal, but now with Kubo on board, it seems there would be an overbooking in his position. You could always put him on the left, where he can also play, and can be seen as the weak side right now as he would best than the current players Villarreal has there.

His wage, as I assume he may be looking towards the 4 millions, while high, could have been assumed without much problem for Villarreal, putting him as the second highest earner behind Bacca (6 millions) and above Gerard Moreno (3.5 millions). But this was before Villarreal went fishing at the Turia and came back with Parejo and Coquelin, with Parejo being paid the same amount as in Valencia, which was way above the 5 millions a season. How do you see this signing?
