UEFA has released their team of the season for La Liga and they have paid due respect to the Yellow Submarine. Departing legend Santi Cazorla found his way on the roster as did Zarra trophy winner Gerard Moreno.

Understandably, league champions Real Madrid had more selections than anyone, with five. A few heads might be scratched over the selection of Yuri at left back, as Athletic Club is far and away the lowest team on the table represented here and there are other left backs that had a shout at that slot (none that play for Villarreal, unfortunately). Fourth place Sevilla got two selections, and if you ask me there are a few different options other than Diego Carlos for that CB slot.
Atletico Madrid will feel most aggrieved, as they finished third in the table and did not have a single selection, but I doubt anyone will try to begrudge Santi his slot after the season he had or Gerard, who had the third most goals in the league (and five assists to boot).
There are always some politics at play in these kind of selections, but overall I think they did pretty well here. The real reason for the existence of these teams seems to be to have fans argue over them, and contrary to what many outside of Spain might think this roster having five names outside the top two is well justified. There are a lot of fine players in this league, and it’s good to see some of the more underappreciated folks, in our case especially Gerard, get their due.
