Villareal fans were dreading this news as Santi Cazorla leaves Villarreal for the third time in his career. El Mago does not vanish into thin air but to cheers and praises of his team mates, managers owners and the virtual fans.

Villarreal rescued Santi from despair following a career ending injury and 2 years from his beloved football. He rewarded the club with 2 years of devotion and quite literally tears at times when Villarreal were threatened with relegation.

The magician has had a magic final season with 11 goals and 10 assists which is breathtaking for a man of his age. Who’d have though when he was signed from Real Oviedo in 2003. He would go on to be one of Villarreal’s greatest stars

He briefly had spells with Recreativo de Huelva and Malaga he then signed for Villarreal European rivals Arsenal.

After Arsenal hung him out to dry following an injury. Villarreal welcomed him back in open arms. He proved every football pundit wrong and went on to be one of Villarreal’s key players in the last 2 years.

Santi Cazorla conjured up 333 appearances and 57 goals for Villarreal and fans are devastated to see him go

Where will El Mago be summoned next?

Opinion

Fans may feel this is a massive waste of his talent. He is arguably still one of the best players in the world. He is still in contention for the Spanish National Team. Any team would dream to have him in the squad. In a recent interview he said to prolong and continue you career perhaps it is better to play outside La Liga. With his injuries not really surprising as he joins Xavi at Al Sadd. Hopefully we will see him again in some capacity, it is certainly not the last time we see that smile in the halls of Villarreal.
