Villarreal USA Rountable: What is our biggest transfer need?

We’ll have a few roundtables this week where we investigate a few different questions about Villarreal. As always, leave us your thoughts in the comments. Today, we’ll investigate what our roster needs, and that should dovetail nicely into tomorrow’s topic about whether we should sign Zambo Anguissa permanently.

The biggest transfer need is a proper defensive midfielder. And next would be two center backs (one to replace Pau when he leaves, if he does).

Editor’s note: Hopefully Pau stays at least one more year, but there really isn’t a true DM in the entire squad. Maybe Morlanes becomes that guy but I’m not sure.

Raul

Defensive midfielder. Naturals right now are Anguissa and Bruno. One is on loan, the other injured and doesn’t seem likely he will return.

Sid

Center back x2. Then give youth a chance!

Editor’s note: If you are a listener of our podcast, this won’t surprise you. Sid’s been banging the youth drum for a while now. Whether or not that youth is actually there to play.. well.. we’ll see.

Zach

I just want someone better than Funes Mori at CB. That’s the main thing. I don’t think we have a true DM on the roster, I see Zambo as more of an 8 and Iborra as a bizarre 6/8 hybrid. I’m not sure we are gonna go out and find that ball playing DM we love so much, but it would be nice.

Realistically, Albiol is too old to be long term reliable, Iborra isn’t far behind, and we don’t have a real replacement for either.
