Everyone has their favorite player ever in any sport. That athlete can inspire us in how we play the game itself or they can simply inspire us to be passionate about a sport or team we may not have followed otherwise. A few of our writers named their favorite Villarreal players and we dug up some highlight videos to relive their genius.

Allen

I have to go with Marcos Senna, I think—he should have been the MVP of Euro 2008 and his form for Villarreal was so good….

Editor’s note: A European Champion with Spain (and team of the tournament) in 2008, a two-time champion of the NASL with the New York Cosmos in the States, Senna might be the best holding midfielder Villarreal has ever had, and that says something.

Raul

I would go with Bruno. He’s from around here, humble guy, worked hard, and he has always been down to earth.

Editor’s note: While I’m sure we all hate the way his career seems to be ending, Bruno is undoubtedly a legend that is underappreciated outside of the Villarreal community. Never got enough caps for Spain, played a position that is beneath the notice of a lot of soccer fans in the modern era, he’s an excellent example of a one club man.

Sid

Román. Legend; enough said. He allowed us to dream.

Editor’s note: He’s arguably our greatest ever player and without question the best Argentinian Barcelona have ever had. No, I’m not biased, why do you ask?

Zach

The Magician. To fight through everything he’s fought through and to play the game as beautifully as he does, he’s the magic of football personified.

Editor’s note: Two-time European Champion, winner of several club trophies as well, and still one of La Liga’s best in his mid-30s.

So, how did we do?
