Villarreal Femenino: a hard fought win to continue at the top

Villarreal travelled to Albacete to meet one of the top teams in the group. It’s the kind of match that can be considered to be worth six points: the three you win and the three your rival doesn’t get.

The match started with a high pressing of Albacete that showed they were going to the match. They make it a success when with two minutes in, Marieta managed to get the goal. From there, Villarreal tried to overcome the pressing of a team that was trying to add a second one. As the match progressed, Villarreal managed to get more comfortable with Albacete making good of the early lead. Villarreal managed to score from a corner via Salma, but the ref disallowed it due to an offside by Salma. Albacete also had a great chance that ultimately, Olivia cleared on the line. With no luck towards the goal, the game went to the break.

Ten minutes after the break, Salma, as it’s becoming the norm, managed to find the goal with a shot from almost outside the box after dribbling past a defender. But the comeback goal would wait more time as Villarreal was starting to fully dominate the manchegas. From a cross by Salma, the try of a volley was not successful, with the grogueta not connecting with the ball, but Olivia made a dash to shoot it inside and put the lead with seven minutes remaining of play.

After this win, Villarreal leads comfortably with Salma being the top scorer. Next match will be against Valencia B in a derby.

Villarreal B and C

Villarreal B got a great win against Marítim with a scoreboard of 4-1 at their favor. The match was already controlled at halftime with a brace by Natalia Centelles. Marítim scored to try the comeback, but an own-goal and a penalty goal converted by Silvia Gallego put the definitive 4-1 in favor of the groguetes. Next match is against the leaders, CFF Albacete, on the road.

Villarreal C played the postponed match from jornada 4 against Mislata B and did quite well. Ana Pallarés scored a brace to put them ahead, but in the closing moments of the match, Mislata B equalized to end in a 2-2 draw, and now the C team is three points ahead of the relegation zone. Next match is against Levante D in a very important match to stop looking down
