Villarreal visited the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium against La Liga title rivals Sevilla. The Yellow’s finally lose as their non losing streak of 12 consecutive games comes to an end.
The game started with both sides clearly going for it with fast paced first half. 7 minutes in Juan Foyth had a rough start covering in the CDM role. Naturally a CB, the Argentine lifted his hand from a long distance shot from Marcos Acuna. The ball graced his hand and VAR awarded a penalty. Ocampos slotted the ball into the right side of the net.
Foyth was clearly being targeted as he took too much time on the ball and was caught out several times. The Yellows were clearly missing Iborra who is out for the season. Villarreal will hopd incoming Etienne Capoue from Watford will provide the defencive cover for the rest of the season.
Sevilla were clearly happy to sit back and defend as Villarreal attempted to breach their defence. As the side went in a half time Villarreal warmed up the subs to go in all out attack.
53 minutes in Sevilla’s physicality in midfield paid off restricting the space Trigueros and Parejo. Pena this time was caught on the ball by Ocampos. Ocampos then played a beautiful through pass through Villarreal’s defence. El Nesyri then outpaced the CBs and slotted the ball through the legs of Asenjo.
Villarreal strived to push on in the 73rd minute. Pedraza with a beautiful run on the left hand side decided to go it alone. He passed three defenders and fired towards the goal only for Bono to pull of a beautiful save.
74 minutes in Pino was instrumental again coming from the subs bench. With a beautiful run he found Samu on the right hand side. The Nigerian launched a beautiful left footed shot into the top right hand corner. The ball was saved and put out for a corner.
Villarreal were clearly outplayed by the Andalusian side. Villarreal can complain about injuries however Sevilla were stronger in the midfield and that clearly showed.
