On The Spot Report: Villarreal Draw 1-1 Against Title Leaders Real Sociedad

Villarreal ‘s streak continues as they earn a valuable point at Anoeta Stadium

Villarreal failed to take 3 points as they struggle to beat an in form Real Sociedad in a scrappy 1-1

Villarreal struck early 6 minutes in. Estupinan was brought down in the box by a flailing Elustondo. Gerrard Moreno stepped up and slots the ball in the bottom right corner for his 6th goal of the season.

The Ecuadorian started at LB as Pedraza stepped in for an injured Moi Gomez. Although he covered the left defencively well. Estuipinan made several ill advised passes earning him the disapproval of an animated Emery

Always an entertaining match between the two La Liga Challengers. In the 33 minute the match was turned on its head. Real Sociedad were given an incorrect corner as ball came of Elustondo. Pau Torres with an elbow to the face of Robin Le Normand. Ozarzabal makes it 1-1.

Neither side dominated as the sides went in at half time. It was clear something special would be needed for either side to break the deadlock.

57 minutes later Real Sociedad had the next real opportunity. A beautiful run by Oyarzabal past Coquelin and Pau Torres. Willian Jose found himself through on goal only to flounced by a beautiful safe from Asenjo.

Real Sociedad then unleashed their feared sub on Villarreal. Ex Premier league players Januzaj and Monreal came in to the fold to liven up the final 10 minutes.

The final few minutes proved to be the most exciting of the second half. Samuel Chukwueze had the final shot on goal. His left footed shot from outside the box was saved by Remiro.

In the final second of the game Gerrard Moreno was through on goal after a beautiful pass by Kubo. He cut back inside to be brought down by a Real Sociedad Defender. The VAR team had clearly gone home as a Penalty was not given.

Scrappy game with very few chances. Both side were solid defencivly with very few chances in attack. Neither side could really claim a man of the match so man of match goes to Emery for holding back the title challengers Real Sociedad.
