Villarreal grinded out a well earned draw against los blancos to carry on their streak and ultimate goal of winning La Liga

2 minutes in Villarreal were caught out early on as Real Madrid struck first. Pedraza was caught napping while the back line were calling for offside. Carvajal crosses the ball in for Mariano to shrug of Mario to head the ball in.

Villarreal seem to recover playing a lot better with Parejo , Trigueros and Moreno showing their worth. 20 Minutes in Gerrard on right sends in a cross to find the head of Parejo only for the ball to to drift harmlessly wide

Both teams were missing key players to injuries and Covid. Villarreal were without inform striker Alcacer. As the teams came out for the second half Villarreal had the most possession but had failed to do anything notable with it.

The dynamic changed when Emery brought on Chukwueze, Estupinan and Pino. 63 minutes in. Samu latched onto a pass from Parejo from the centre box. He took the ball first time only for the ball to fly over the goal.

The subs continued to impress and energize the game. 66 minutes in Estupinan launched in a beautiful cross from his left foot. The ball found a waiting Parejo who only had to slot it passed Courtois instead slid the ball harmlessly wide.

Villarreal finally struck gold in the 76 minute. Samu latched onto a beautiful through ball. The Nigerian was then brought down by a flailing Courtois for a penalty. Gerrard calmly steps up to slot ball into the back of the net.

Villarreal continued to dominate against a tiring Real Madrid bringing on loan star Kubo for the final 10 minutes. The Japanese star could do little for the match as it ended 1-1. It was fair to say that neither side really deserved to win it. Come the end of the season both sides may regret not winning it as they press to win La Liga.
