Really our only remaining chance for a trophy this campaign is the Copa Del Rey. The next stop in that pursuit takes us to Estadi Montilivi to Girona FC owned by City Football Group (and their related oil money). It’s a game we should win, but then so was the last one, and well...

It’s a very predictable sort of lineup in the Copa against lower level competition. Strong but measured, much as it was last round. Controlling the ball will be important and I would not be surprised if we saw Iborra, Chukwueze, or Alberto depending on time and situation. Ideally, none of them are necessary, we blow them away, and little used players get a run out. It just doesn’t feel like that’s the kind of season we are having.

No Christhian Stuani. Really shocked because to my knowledge he’s not hurt. In theory this should make the game a whole lot easier, but it really doesn’t make me feel any better. Stuani was the only player Girona had that made me nervous, but on the flip side if he isn’t playing and this doesn’t go well... I’ve honestly only watched about one half of one Girona game this season, so beyond that I’m not sure what to expect.
Everyone loves a cup run, and this new format brings plenty of excitement, let’s hope it brings a win as well. Comment with us if you’re watching, hopefully there are plenty of Villarreal goals to celebrate and no injuries to report when it is all said and done. Endavant Villarreal!
