Villareal’s women’s team is now tied on points with 3rd place Granada in the Segunda Division Pro South division after a 2-1 remontada win against Alhama CF. The goals came from Salma in the 54th minute and Sheila in the 72nd minute after falling behind to a 14th minute goal to the opposition.

Salma Paralluelo, our opening goalscorer, is just 16 years of age! She has won a European Championship and also a World Cup with the Spainish U-17s, and is also a record setting regular 400 meter and 400 meter hurdle runner, with three national records to her credit. She’s a world class athlete that we can be proud to have as part of our club.

Sheila Guijarro, who scored the winner, is a striker with Spanish international experience at the U-19 level. You can see a video of her header below from Villarreal’s main Twitter account:

This makes three wins in a row for the groguetes, with relegation threatened Collerense coming up next on Sunday, January 19th. The club deserves praise for investing in their women’s side, and as we said last week achieving the top flight seems to be a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’.

For those curious about where the women’s team plays their home games, it is in a small stadium situated in the CD Miralcamp training complex. You can get a great look at it in this video from the club Youtube channel:

I am looking forward to the next time the club posts one of the women’s games live. We will of course support the team regardless but futball is all about being able to celebrate with your team in the moment.
