Raúl Albiol joins Villarreal

Villarreal have announced the signing of Raúl Albiol to a three-year contract. He arrives on a transfer from Napoli. Terms have not been released but the €4m figure has been bandied about for some time. What is known is that he has signed a three-year contract with Villarreal and will join the team for the opening of training.

Albiol is a native of Vilamarxant and came up in the Valencia youth system. He played for Getafe in 2004-05 on loan, then Valencia 2005-2009 when he was sold to Real Madrid; he left and joined Napoli in 2013. Now about to turn 34 years of age, he’s still considered an excellent defender and should certainly be a good addition—he was representing Spain internationally not that long ago.
