Villarreal B will rack up a few travel miles when they visit the newest member of their Segunda B group. Reus would have been relegated from the Segunda to the third tier, but were further relegated due to the failure to pay its players. Now, into the void has stepped FC Andorra. The team, based in Encamp in the Principality of Andorra but playing in the Spanish league pyramid since 1948, finished top of the Catalan regional league last season.
Normally, that would have gotten them access to the Tercera, but their owner, Kosmos Holding Group (owner, Gerard Piqué) has paid over €400k to effectively buy that Segunda B place for next season. According to press reports, the ‘good relationship between Pique and RFEF President Rubiales has been key to the unusual transaction.’
