Villarreal transfer news, July 17

The anniversary of Santi’s return, incidentally.

Today is Marcos Senna’s 43rd birthday—many happy returns, Eternal Captain!! And it’s the one year anniversary of Santi Cazorla’s return to competitive football—he came on in the second half of our friendly at Herculés.

As far as this year’s team is concerned, we have a few tidbits:

Moi Gómez is apparently signing with Villarreal, possibly on loan with a purchase option, not sure yet. Sporting needs to move his salary so that seems the main driver here.

Alvaro Gonzalez has an offer from Olympique Marseille, apparently, for €8m, and his transfer is imminent. So says A Punt, the Valencian Community TV/radio. So, that will leave us with Pau, Funes Mori, Albiol, and (possibly) Victor Ruiz.

Joan Feminías (Villarreal B keeper) has moved to Fuenlabrada. This leaves Diego Fuoli as the #1 B team keeper, I believe (I thought he was very good last season). Mario González has left the B team for Clermont Foot in France’s second division, and several B-teamers players (Emmanuel Lomontey, Ruben Mesa, and Nikola Vujnovic) are out of contract now.

Villarreal are perhaps cooling their interest in Javier Ontiveros given Malaga’s demands, perhaps not. We still seem to be pursuing Getafe’s Arambarri but are not wanting to pay the €20m Getafe wants; there’s some thought we might try to include Alfred N’Diaye in the deal somehow.

Alfonso Pedraza has been officially presented by Betis.

And we have signed Sofian Chakla to reinforce the B team’s defense. He comes from Melilla, not Almeria B as I stated before. Sorry!!
