Villarreal win the Copa del Rey Juvenil!

Third time was a charm for Villarreal’s Juvenil A squad. Having lost to Tigres on penalties in the final of the Dallas Cup, and to Real Sociedad on penalties in the final of the group champions’ tournament, the Submarine youngsters comprehensively outplayed Atletico Madrid in Almeria today and came away with 3-0 victory.

The win was the more impressive given that Villarreal were missing some key players, including suspended Alex Baena, but it didn’t matter. Villarreal went ahead early through a goal from Galdón, added a second before halftime through a penalty (Fer Niño winning it and converting) and Galdón scored again in the 78th minute. Atleti had a player expelled late on, hardly the sort of sportsmanship one wants to see.
