Sansone and Soriano are sold to Bologna

We lose our Italian connection.

As expected, Villarreal have parted ways with Nicola Sansone and Roberto Soriano, selling the two of them to Bologna for €16m. That’s a considerable loss on the €27m we paid for them in the summer of 2016.

Soriano had one excellent season, scoring nine goals and looking like a technical wizard at times, in 2016-17. Sansone scored eight goals that season, and added five more in very limited playing time the next year—and even a tying goal against Rayo (he only played 34 minutes all told for us) before being loaned out last season.

Villarreal USA wishes them both the best.

Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl around Samuel Chukwueze, though you’d think a €60m price tag would scare people off for awhile. Maybe not, though, given that the BBC has reported Tottenham are willing to pay that amount for Giovani Lo Celso (whom Betis are signing permanently from Paris Saint-Germain, as part of their loan deal, for €22m.) And Pablo Fornals and Alfonso Pedraza are other players with EPL interest. It will be an interesting summer!
