Quite a match today in the Riazor as Deportivo took on Mallorca. After some outstanding saves from Dani Gimenez in the Depor goal, the home side won it when ex-Villarreal player Nahuel Leiva, who had come on as a substitute late on, used his speed to latch on to a diagonal ball in the area and was fouled by the Mallorca defender. Carlos Fernandez roofed the penalty (after the inevitable protests) and the game was over.
This win puts Depor even with Cadiz on 64 points (they are both 16-16-8), though Cadiz own the tiebreak.
Two matchdays left now in the Segunda calendar. Here’s how it looks:
Promoted: Osasuna (81 pts)
Nearly there: Granada, on 75. They are away to Mallorca this Sunday, and finish up at home to Alcorcón.
Definitely in the playoffs: Albacete (71). They host Malaga on Sunday and finish away to Almeria. (NB: Granada owns the tiebreak if they and Albacete finish even on points).
In the playoff hunt: Malaga (68), Mallorca (67), Cadiz (64), Deportivo (64), Oviedo (60).
Malaga: Albacete (A), Elche (H)
Mallorca: Granada (H), Extramadura (A)
