Villarreal live to fight another year in the Primera after a nerve-racking 1-0 victory over Eibar before a large crowd at the Ceramíca. The only goal of the patch was scored by Karl Toko Ekambi just before the hour mark, after he, Pablo Fornals and Samu Chukwueze had all had great chances in the first half.
Eibar seldom threatened except late—they actually had the ball in the net twice but both times it was ruled out for offside. Was the match a classic? No, but rather like the promotion match against Almeria six years ago, it didn’t really matter.
And—like that match—ultimately the winning goal wasn’t that critical, since Levante came from behind to defeat Girona 2-1 so we would have been OK even if we had lost. That’s all right—we’ll take it! Funes Mori played well again at the back, Ekambi was our best player at the front.
The only highlight I have been able to find is this one of our goal. Enjoy.
