Ex-Villarreal man Giovanni dos Santos released

Villarreal parted ways with Gio dos Santos in 2015, and now the LA Galaxy has done the same—sort of. The Galaxy have bought out his contract, agreeing to pay him his salary for now while the details are worked out.

Gio was sold to the Galaxy for something like €7 million in 2015, essentially recouping what we bought him from Mallorca for two years ago. Unfortunately, apart from a fine 2016 season, Gio has disappointed in Los Angeles. At age 29, he’s still got some reasonable years in front of him in theory, but he’s had injuries the last year too.

Younger brother Jonathan continues with the Galaxy.
