Villarreal now five points from safety

And will be 19th after the next round of matches, whatever happens.

Villarreal are still four points behind Rayo following the Lightning’s 2-1 home loss to Leganés. There are eight teams with between 23 and 27 points, so if Villarreal could ever pick up, you know, three points in one fell swoop, they could move up the table—but by the same token many of those teams are playing each other so at least one of them will pick up points.

This week especially has a lot of matches between teams in the bottom half of the table:

Villarreal (19) v Real Valladolid (25) on Friday

Saturday:

Espanyol (25) v Rayo Vallecano (23)

Girona (24) v Huesca (15)

Celta (24) are away to Getafe (32); Leganés (26) host Betis (32).

It’s not really useful at this stage to hope for particular results unless we can start winning, though. We will be in 19th for one more week even if we win in Valladolid, but we would certainly be a lot closer to other teams with a win!
