It’s been announced that Villarreal will be part of the 40th Anniversary Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup. Considered one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the United States, it will take place from April 14 to 21, 2019.

Villarreal will be part of the Gordon Jago Super Group, which is an invitational group of teams that will field under-19 sides. They include:

Villarreal CF, Querétaro FC, Ikapa Sporting FC, Cruzeiro EC, CF Monterrey, Red Bull Brasil, Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, Tigres UANL, New York City FC ,FC Dallas, and Toronto FC.

Villarreal have never played in the competition before, though several youth stars who later went on to join Villarreal have (including Giuseppe Rossi). The only Spanish side to win the supergroup is Real Madrid, who performed the feat in 1992 and 1993. Presumably our team will essentially be our Division de Honór Juvenil A side.

Hopefully this will be a prelude to a US visit from the senior team at some point!
