Injury concerns for Villarreal ahead of key match

It’s only Tuesday, but....

News is Sergio Asenjo and Javi Fuego didn’t train today with the team. In Sergio’s case is simply considered “precautionary” so I would not be too worried at this point, but in Javi Fuego’s case, if he is unable to go, this leaves us very thin in the middle, because Santy Caseres is definitely out and so is Manu Trigueros.

At the moment Iborra and Manu Morlanes are the only two players who could play in the middle of the 3-5-2, 3-4-1-2, or whatever we play.

Of course Daniele Bonera is out as well, and I (at least) show Alvaro with ten yellows, though again it could be that since one of them was a second yellow it does not count toward the suspension. That would make sense, actually.

I do know Ximo Navarro should be out for Alaves after picking up his fifth yellow.

The weekend’s results weren’t bad for us (considering we lost): Celta picked up a point at Alaves and Girona drew at home, Valladolid lost, so in theory a win could enable us to pass two teams and get close to a third.

Rayo-Girona on Friday

Espanyol-Valladolid on Saturday (early match, before ours)

Villarreal-Alaves Saturday (second slot)

Huesca-Sevilla Saturday (third slot)
