Villarreal are enjoying the day after their best performance of the season. Bacca’s backheel to Ekambi was the play of the game, of course, but not the only highlight. With Huesca losing today to Athletic Club, they remain five points behind Villarreal and Rayo.
Villarreal B drew 1-1 at Sabadell and are now second in the table, with Atletico Baleares going top by a point after defeating Conquense. The B-boys host Peralada, losers of four of their last five, on Saturday.
Villarreal C also drew 1-1, away to second-placed La Nucia. Our C team is in mid-table and this Saturday will host Novelda, who are coming off only their second win since September.
And would you believe Villarreal Ladies drew 1-1 as well? Yup, at home to Plaza Argel. A bit disappointing, I suppose, as they are below us in the table, but still. Basically there are 4 teams (Valencia, Alhama, Levante and Villarreal) who are outdistancing the others by a fair amount, and as these are Valencia and Levante’s second teams, they can’t get promoted. So if Villarreal can stay in top four, they could make the playoffs.
Meanwhile, news of ex-Villarreal B player Adrián Dalmau. He moved on a free transfer to Dutch team Heracles Almelo, and scored four goals in a victory over Fortuna Sittard, giving him 10 on the season. And Rúben Semedo, now back in Portugal and playing on loan with Rio Ave, scored a goal for them.
Speaking of Portugal, our opponent on Thursday, Sporting Lisbon, also had a big 3-0 win this weekend—they defeated Braga, who lie third above them, with two goals from Bas Dost and one from Bruno Hernandes.
