Villarreal Ladies win at weekend; U-21 Premier Cup game vs Arsenal is today

We haven’t reported on the Villarreal women’s side in a bit, but after a few hiccups, they have posted two straight wins and are in fourth place in their league, just below the promotion spots.

Their latest match was a 2-1 win at home over Femarguín; next up, a long away trip to Las Palmas to face CD Juan Grande.

Meanwhile, Villarreal continue their adventures in the U-21 International Cup competition, taking on Arsenal’s U-23 side at Boreham Wood. As this preview notes, it’s unlikely to be streamed, so we’ll have to rely on Twitter reports or the like. Since we lost our first match to Zagreb, we pretty much need a win this time.

Our team is:

  • Goalkeepers: Josele and Marc Vidal.
  • Defenders: Pepe Castaño, Goyo, Carlos Blanco, Edu Adell, Sofian Chakla and Andrei.
  • Midfielders: Beitia, Fran Álvarez, Iván Morante, Agüero, Iván Martín, Baena and Lozano.
  • Forwards: Millán, Edu Espiau and Collado.

Pretty much B teamers, including some who have not played much. With the forfeit to Castellón and our recent lack of form (no wins in our last even matches, counting the forfeit) the B team has fallen all the way to 11th in the table. And with Simón Moreno out for the season after surgery, our lack of goal scoring is a concern. (We’ve been missing Mukwelle Akale in midfield, too, which has not helped).

Endavant!
