Miguel Layún departs Villarreal

We hardly knew you....

Not surprisingly considering his lack of playing time, Miguel Layún has departed Villarreal for Rayados in Mexico. The 30 year-old was signed from Porto in the summer for €4m, but hardly featured for Villarreal at all. He’s moved back to Mexico for a fee rumored to be around €3m or so.

Layún’s departure had been anticipated, but when Javi Calleja was fired, new coach Luis Garcia Plaza supposedly asked that the club change that plan and keep him. However, after seeing him in action, evidently Plaza changed his mind, because the last action he saw in the league was against Madrid on January 3.

Good luck to him as he returns to Mexico after four years in Europe.
