Within the last hour or two a rumor is gaining traction, that Napoli will sign Pablo Fornals from Villarreal.
AS, in an article with Javi Mata as one of the authors, says Napoli are interested, but have not as yet made a formal offer, and whether they do depends on if they receive an offer for midfielder Alan. And even if Napoli offers something, Fornals had previously said he wanted to stay and help Villarreal fight against relegation, so would he even agree to a transfer?
Mundo Deportivo, not as well connected to Villarreal, has published a story making the transfer sound definite.
Marca, meanwhile, say Villarreal have told Napoli they would only agree to a transfer if they pay his transfer clause, and we would want to line up uses of the money first, so we’re not stuck holding the money with nothing to spend it on.
It’s an interesting conundrum—Villarreal need to sell to bring in reinforcements elsewhere, and if we are relegated, probably Fornals leaves anyway, for much less than his recission clause.
But, if he departs, our chances of relegation increase, unless we spend that money wisely and well to address our needs at centerback, especially. As for Fornals, he’s a local boy, so does moving to Italy attract him? (I’ve heard Napoli would triple his salary—that would sure help).
