Bad, but not as bad as first feared

Word is Santiago Cáceres suffered a severe knee sprain, but not torn ligaments in the match yesterday against Girona. That’s a big loss, as he had been very impressive so far.

With the international breaks, if he’s able to come back around the end of October, he will have only missed 6-7 league matches and a couple of Europa League ones, but until at least then Villarreal will have to make do with young Manu Morlanes, Manu Trigueros, and Bruno Soriano as central midfielders—that is, when Bruno is able to return to action which may be in three weeks or so.
