Villarreal will visit Sevilla in what is the first on the road match of the season. This visit happens in the middle of the play-off round for qualification to the group stage of Europa League for Sevilla. Vila will be looking to get the first three points here, and what a best way than against a team expected to be in European positions or near at the end. Vila will have to surpass the 3-4-3 that tends to favor Machín. And I hope Calleja has prepared the match well enough and reminded the players the importance of being concentrated during the match and not making errors that costs goals
Sevilla has to think also on next Thursday match. While Machín doesn’t have the experience on coaching a team with European season too, we have seen him in Girona doing a great job, so he won’t give it easy for this match.
Last season: Villarreal won only 5 match away in league, and two of them were against relegated teams. But we also won Madrid at Bernabéu, so there’s that. When we first met Sevilla last season was in late November at Cerámica losing 2-3 (we blew out a 2-0 advantage). The second leg was played in middle April with a 2-2 tie, but we again didn’t make the best of the 0-2 advantage
Prediction: As Sevilla is playing Europa League qualifying, I’m gonna be optimistic and say win 0-1 with Gerard Moreno as the scorer.
