There will be three new referees in La Liga next season. Alvarez Izquierdo and Fernando Borbalán have ‘aged out’ , and Daniel Trujillo, who only was promoted from the Segunda two years ago, has been “relegated” back.
The three new referees will be Prieto Iglesias (who himself was first promoted to the Primera in 2013, then sent back to the Segunda two years ago), Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez, from the Balearic Islands, and Adrián Cordero Vega, from Cantabria. Both of these gentlemen are 34 years old and this will be their first time in the Primera.
Daniel Trujillo was the referee for Villarreal’s victory in the Mestalla, featuring two red cards and ten yellows. He also “beeped” in our home league win against Leganés and our home loss to Alavés last season.
And of course, we are spared Mateu Lahoz since he is a Valencian Community referee so can’t be assigned to matches involving Valencian teams.
