After a couple of days work in Girona, Villarreal head across the French border to play Montpellier. The match will be shown on GolTV in France and Spain, but as far as I know that’s it.
The club haven’t released the traveling party because I assume pretty much everyone at the training ground is going, though we’ll have to see who Calleja uses. Miguel Layun has now joined up, I believe Cheryshev returns later this week. After this match at Canet-en-Rousillon, we return to Girona for another couple of days of training before heading to Sheffield to play Wednesday on Saturday. (I hope everyone is clear with that).
Villarreal B has now won a couple of friendlies, first against our C team (1-0), more recently against Porto’s B team (3-1). That’s probably a good test, given that Porto won the under-21 Premier League International Cup last year and many of those players are with them again.
Transfer rumors: Andrade played for Lanus yesterday, was apparently excellent but his team went out of the Copa Sudamericana on penalties.
And local paper EPM has an article stating Villarreal’s main target for now is finding another defensive midfielder in case Bruno is unable to return. Which is not a surprise given how little has been said about him this summer.
Other than that, the focus is on sales. Nicola Sansone to Fiorentina is getting more traction. Nothing exciting otherwise.
Meanwhile, EPM also reports that Santi Cazorla is likely to be offered a contract and a squad number; though nothing is official yet, the ‘sensations’ Santi has provided so far have been very good.
