Villarreal “U-23”s will compete in England again

Villarreal is again going to take part in the Premier League U-23 International Cup. Some have criticized this because it is more matches for our players trying to get promoted from the Segunda B, but the front office obviously disagrees, feeling it’s a great opportunity for us to be tested against strong international opposition.

The Yellow Submarine won the trophy in 2016 and made it to the semifinals last season before losing on penalties to Arsenal; this year, we will play in a group including Liverpool, Swansea City, and German side Hertha Berlin.

Last year Liverpool made it to the final 8, losing to eventual champs Porto; Swansea and Hertha both competed but didn’t make it to the knockout stages.

These matches usually happen in the mid-September to mid-November period; we’ll probably play Liverpool and Swansea at their grounds and Hertha at someplace around London. Once details of the matches are released we will let everyone know.
