Villarreal 2018-19 kit released!

First kit is all yellow, who would have guessed....

Let’s start with the news that Villarreal has released its kit for 2018-19. The first kit is, to absolutely no one’s surprise, yellow, and now that Las Palmas have been relegated, you probably won’t seeing us wear much else this season.

The cool thing about this shirt is the stripey thing going on texturewise—it’s supposed to be inspired by, though not exactly like, the Estadio de la Ceramica—and it does look pretty neat. Otherwise, it has a bit of blue at the sleeves; the neckline is round with some blue touches as well.

Overall, I think it’s nice, I didn’t buy a yellow shirt for this season so maybe it’s time. I do wish though we would play in blue shorts again sometime—after all, our club song says our colors are yellow and blue!

The second kit is a rather pleasant mauve, purply sort of color, with a different neckline (looks like maybe a bit of a collar, and there are some off-white (or white—hard to tell) swooshes along the collar and sleeves. I rather like this one, and initial reaction on twitter has been positive for this one as well.

Joma is two-for-two, then, but they rather spoiled it with the third kit, a black-with-red pulsating blobs sort of thing that I can’t imagine will appeal to many. Honestly, a third kit is mostly a marketing ploy anyhow, but in Villarreal’s case, why bother? So few teams play in yellow that we can almost always avoid a color clash in our first kit that we hardly have a need for a second, much less a third.

If you want to see the keeper’s kits (one green, one blue) and the warmup shirts (one orange and black, one black and orange) they’re for sale in the official shop here. I rather like the keeper’s kits—of course, we had a green one recently, you have to go back 10 years or so but we did have a light blue one once in the Puma days. These are quite nice. As for the warmup outfits, I’d really rather have them be yellow and have some different design touches from the first kit—or what about doing a senyera warmup shirt, based on the Valencian flag? Just a thought.
